While Meghan and Harry are Criticized for their Private Jet travels, Kate and William Get Lauded for their Budget Flight

Meghan Markle and controversies are no stranger to each other; the most recent being when she travelled abroad with her husband, Prince Harry. As it is, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex faced massive social scorn after royalists accused them of being hypocrites, for taking a private jet to Nice.

This was during their first abroad trip as a family and consequently, they left to celebrate the former Suits actress’ 38th birthday. The loud uproar arose when fans voiced concerns that flying privately contributes to global warming, about which the couple were spreading awareness.

FIRST FAMILY TRIP

To be fair, Meghan has been under scrutiny ever since she was linked to Prince Harry and more so now that she’s a mom and part of the royal family. She is a regular victim of bullying and she fuels the grapevine attempts to churn out malicious rumors about her that are simply outrageous. So the recent blowback was not really shocking. Recently, trolls started targeting the Sussex’s’ first trip with son Archie to Nice, where they stayed at Elton John’s house. The Sussex’s flew to Nice, France for a brief vacation.

The musician rushed to the royals’ defence and said that he along with David Furnish planned to give the family a private stay after all their year-long efforts and they provided a plane for them because of the high-level of security needed. The pianist further explained that the flight was carbon neutral in deference to Prince Harry’s espoused cause. The luxurious plane was actually a Cessna 680 Citation Sovereign, a 12-seater aircraft that would have set the couple back, by over $20,000 if it had not been lent by Elton. Upon arriving at Nice Airport, it was reported that the royal family travelled in a sleek Mercedes limousine to Elton’s Castel Mont-Alban, a French Riviera villa.

PRINCE HARRY’S BLUNDER

Prince Harry once gave a strong speech about climate change without any shoes on. Prior to this instance, the 34-year-old had already been slammed for flying privately to Sicily to speak about causes related to the environment, which was a tad ironic. Prince Harry delivered his speech without any shoes on to underline the specific cause, but people pointed out that a private jet had 10 times the carbon emissions than a commercial one.

FLYING ON COMMERCIAL FLIGHTS

This gave the negative mind-sets, an opportunity to compare the Sussexes to the Cambridges, who are reputed for flying commercially. Kate Middleton and Prince William recently visited Scotland with their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and little Prince Louis, and Maria, their nanny via an Eastern Airways plane. A one-way ticket from Norwich to Aberdeen is around $89 and if you expected other passengers to swarm up on the royals’ seats, no one even noticed, as confirmed by one passenger. Kate Middleton and Prince William have been very consistent fans of commercial/ budget flights. People spotted the Royal family only after the plane landed with a fleet of Range Rovers awaiting the royals. It’s not clear if Kate and William were trying to rub it in Meghan and Harry’s faces. Probably not, but people simply said that the Royal Family were used to taking commercial flights and this incidence was only a happenstance.
